An Easy Way to Digitize Old Photos, Videos, and Other Memories

Make 2024 the year you digitize and safeguard your photos, videos, and other most meaningful memories.

The best way to make them last for the future is by digitizing the hard copies then storing them into a place that’s guaranteed safe and secure.

I’ve been a photo coach for almost 30 years and the system I personally use and use with my clients is FOREVER®.

If you’ve been looking for the best ways to digitize your old family photos and more than read on to see why I highly recommend the platform.

You can take a virtual tour of FOREVER® and see all the great benefits in action. Scroll to the end of this post to contact me and schedule a time.

What is digitizing?

What is digitizing and why do it?

You’re turning your hard copies into files that can be stored digitally. Here’s a definition: you’re converting photos, videos, or other files into a digital form that can be processed in a digital landscape like a computer or uploaded into cloud storage.

What can be digitized?

  • Photos,
  • VHS cassette tapes, slides,
  • old letters
  • historical family documents
  • 8amm home movies
  • Handwritten letters

Why digitize your memories?

Here are six reasons to digitize your memories. With FOREVER® you’re preserving them for future generations and even centuries.

  1. Your photos, videos, and other media are fragile. Did you know they’re slowly disintegrating? Audio cassettes can break and so can videos.
  2. Technology changes and how easy is it for you to sit down and play a VHS tape, DVD, or pop an audio cassette into the car’s stereo? Remember 8-track tapes sold at Radio Shack? The cutting-edge retailer got cut out of the retail scene just like Blockbuster.
  3. Digitizing your files with the FOREVER® platform lets you keep up with technology.
  4. Save space there may be some files you’ll digitize and you’ll be able to toss the hard copy so you can thin out some shelves.
  5. Family and friends from around the country or around the world can log in to see your photos and videos if you give them permission.
  6. It’s possible to improve the quality of files through digitization because images can be restored or improved.

How do you digitize?

You can digitize photos and documents on your own using a:

  • Scanner—either standalone or with a multifunction printer.
  • Phone—there are plenty of scanner apps for phones or you can place your old photos in good light and then take pictures using your smartphone.

This is a labor-intensive process so there’s an easier way.

FOREVER® digitizes older files in its state-of-the-art facility outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin as stated on its website:

“The new 25,000-square-foot facility was completed at a total cost of US $5 million, including new equipment, with the result that FOREVER now operates the world’s newest, highest-quality memory digitization facility.”

The team currently has 30 staff but plans to expand to 4 times that amount in the near future.

Here’s more of a peek: The new facility is highly secure and includes an indoor loading dock, warehouse, processing area, logistics area, team member break area, server room, media studio, and offices.

To digitize, you use a FOREVER box to ship your memories to the facility and they’ll upload to your account and then return your files.

Take a virtual tour with me and I’ll gladly share how you can do this conveniently and without the cost of your own equipment and time.

You can see in this photo of me and my siblings from 1962 that there’s space in your FOREVER account to write a story about the file and capture important information.

One of the best reasons is because you can own your account so it’s yours permanently. And FOREVER® is guaranteed safe. It’s the only permanent storage solution I’ve found.

The chart below compares FOREVER® with other companies. I’ve written extensively about the benefits of using FOREVER® compared to social media, Google Photos, and companies like Shutterfly.
