How Digitizing Old Photos and Videos is the First Step to Safe, Permanent Storage

You’ve seen some of my older family photos if you’ve read through my blog posts. I’m able to share them with you because they’re digitized and safely stored in my FOREVER® digital space.

This photo of my grandmother when she was 4 years old was taken well over 100 years ago.

You’ll learn two key things in this post:

I’m a photo coach and you’ll read why I use FOREVER® as a complete memory-keeping system.

You can get a close-up look by taking a virtual tour with me and trying the platform with 2 free GB of storage space. Scroll down to contact me.

Why digitize older files?

Printed photos are fun to hold and use to reminisce. But they’re only able to be shared in one place at a time and they’re at risk of getting lost or damaged. Unless you digitize them and store them in a safe place.

You can digitize so many more files like slide shows, 8mm home movies, and VHS tapes. Hard copy documents like birth and marriage certificates and handwritten letters.

Now, they’re safely and permanently stored. Guaranteed.

How do you digitize older files?

You can use a scanner like I’ve used in the past for my photos personally and with clients. But put this under the category of “work smarter, not harder.”

FOREVER® makes it easy and convenient to digitize your out-of-date files. You can purchase a FOREVER® box to pack and ship to their digitization facility in Wisconsin.

Green Bay isn’t just home to the Packers!

I’m so glad the box stays in the U.S. and they can be seamlessly uploaded to your FOREVER® account.

We know that many older photos are fragile and can easily tear or get damaged. A member of FOREVER®’s digitization team, Kirk Schuchardt, describes in a FOREVER® blog post how they handle fragile photos:

“We immediately separate these photos from other, typical photos and label them as flatbeds as well as which bags these photos originally came from. Labeling these photos as flatbeds essentially means that we digitize these photos with even greater care than usual (which is already quite great). We use a flatbed scanner to scan these fragile photos because they’re too fragile to move through a typical photo scanner.”

Some photos may need touching up. A person who’s very good with that is my colleague Kathy Jones. You know those photos that would be perfect if it wasn’t for someone blinking? Kathy can make those just right. A link to her story is at the end.

Digitized files are versatile

Once your older files are digitized, you can organize them in albums within your digital space that you own at FOREVER®. From there, you can use the photos in printed photo books and in other gifts for giving during the Christmas holidays and all year long.

During the FOREVER® tour, I’ll show you can share your albums with friends and family where they have an internet connection.

You can also use the older prints to chronicle and research your family’s history and introduce ancestors you’ve never met to future family members who you may never meet.

Let me emphasize this:

Digital storage with FOREVER® is safer than laptops, external hard drives, and other online storage services because the system is designed to last for many generations to come. The safety is guaranteed.

You also own your digital space with FOREVER® which means you won’t get locked out or have the terms of service changed—and your data will never be used for advertising or marketing purposes.
