Protecting Your Family’s History: How Would You Store a Treasure Trove of Old Family Photos?

High school football season is almost underway. Where will you store the photos of your athletes?

My grandfather played and this is what he looked like suited up in 1924.

This photo’s now 99 years old but it’s safely stored and my great-grandchildren, and their children, will be able to access it.

Read on to find out how.

Make sure you safeguard your family memories. Don’t leave them to chance.

A news story broke about a man in Stockton, California who bought an old RV in 2021 and while cleaning it out he came across a portfolio of old photos and documents. He found:

  • a man posing in a policeman’s uniform;
  • a police academy certificate from Des Moines, Iowa dated 1951
  • a Marine Corps platoon photo in San Diego from the same year

There were also photos of a young couple posing with a toddler, the child alone, and a photo of a bowling team.

Looking at the photos gave the man who found them a connection with the people whose images were captured even though they were total strangers and he found them about 70 years after they were taken.

“I’m overwhelmed by it, it looks like a lot of history,” Garcia said. “From when he was a police captain and all the bowling (pictures), it’s almost like I know the guy.”

He’s been trying to locate the family of the people he sees in the photos but he’s been unsuccessful.

Scroll to the end of this post for a link to the story.

Safeguard Your Family History

If that’s the feeling that photos can give a total stranger, imagine how deeply photos, videos, and other formats capturing your family history will impact you—and your future family members you’ll never meet.

This is why I love being a photo coach. Your family’s story is completely unique and worth preserving.

Remember, you have a story. And it deserves to be told into the next century and beyond.

But how do you pass that story along from one generation to the next, especially in the digital era when fewer people are using traditional scrapbook albums?

Digital storage is the answer, but I’ve only found one permanent solution.

Introducing FOREVER®

I’m coming up on 30 years as a photo coach and the best storage solution I’ve found is FOREVER®, a solution that’s right for users of all ages and backgrounds. I’ve been using FOREVER® for several years now and it’s a powerful tool.

Take a virtual tour with me and see it in action. Just scroll to the end of this post and contact me to take a tour.

Family Photo in FOREVER
The FOREVER digital album makes storing photos convenient and safe

The Impact of FOREVER®

FOREVER® lets you get the most from your memories in several ways.

You can own your space so there’s no danger of being locked out of your account or having the Terms of Service changed. So, you’re in control and be confident that your information will never be used for marketing or data mining purposes.

Digitize older photos, videos, slide shows, home movies, and other formats like documents. The photo above is from a colleague of mine, Cindy Marks, stored in her FOREVER® album.

FOREVER® offers digitization to make the process as convenient as possible for you in their Green Bay, Wisconsin facility.

Photos are stored in full resolution and are not compressed.

The customer service is outstanding.

Store all of your most meaningful memories from the past and the future in one place, permanently. Safely.

Guaranteed.

How FORERVER® Works

You upload files to a central place called your Library or directly into an Album you created.

From the Library, you can arrange them into Albums and Nested Albums. It’s like storing documents in a folder on your computer and creating subfolders.

Tags make it easy to sort your files, too.

Look at this title.

On the FOREVER blog One Letter at a Time.

It’s a collection of handwritten letters from World War Two that have been digitized and uploaded to FOREVER®. They’re now about 80 years old and they can be stored for many more generations to come, even centuries.

Imagine the peace of mind you’ll have if you do family research and your most meaningful memories are safely stored digitally and guaranteed safe. FOREVER®’s business model includes true permanent storage.

Here’s another photo of my grandfather as a young man in 1935 stored in my FOREVER® space. The photo’s now a century old and will be available for a lifetime, plus another 100 years or more.

It’ll be easy for the grandkids of my great-grandkids to do their own family research by accessing my family’s FOREVER® account.

As new technologies become available, the company migrates older files so they can still be accessed by your children and future generations at no additional cost to you because you invested in FOREVER® Permanent Storage.

How many other companies in the industry let you be in control?

Google Photos just announced it will begin deleting inactive accounts starting December 2023.

Costco moved its online photos to Shutterfly as I noted in this post earlier this year.

Any company can change its model and your memories are affected.

Enjoy FOREVER®’s Versatility

Now look at more you can do with FOREVER®.

You can turn your digital photos into photo books and other meaningful gifts.

Are you researching your family’s history?

You can consult with FOREVER®’s professional researchers to lay out a plan or, if you get stuck in gathering information, turn to the researchers to find hard-to-locate files.

Remember, FOREVER® is a tool that lets you safely store your family’s history so it’s not packed away in boxes that can get lost, or external hard drives that can get corrupted or damaged through other forms of storage.
