Decluttering your photos is a great way to find your most meaningful memories and tell the stories behind the photos.
That way, you’re leaving a family and personal legacy with your family’s photos and videos. Here’s a helpful example.
The Story Behind the Photo
Golfing is a passion of mine. This photo of me standing on a green and holding the flag is a memory of a hole-in-one I shot a few years ago.
I’m on one of the many courses in the desert communities in greater Palm Springs. This moment is permanently stored in my FOREVER® digital home.
Since it’s permanently stored, this means my grandchildren and their children will be able to see it many decades from now.
But here’s something else I want you to know: they’ll be able to read the story that’s behind the photo.

Book Excerpt
It was a beautiful, crisp New Year’s Day as I welcomed 2022 with a round of golf alongside my daughter and her mother-in-law. On the 12th hole, I hit my tee shot straight down the fairway, but none of us could see where the ball stopped. I assumed it had rolled past the green.
As I drove the golf cart toward the green, I searched everywhere but couldn’t find the ball. Then a thought crossed my mind: Could it actually be in the hole?
My daughter grabbed her phone and started recording as I walked toward the flag. I looked down…and there it was—my ball resting in the cup. My very first hole-in-one!
The cheers, laughter, and celebration that followed were unforgettable, and thanks to my daughter’s quick thinking, the entire moment was captured on video.
What made this achievement even more meaningful was remembering my dad. Less than a year earlier, I had lost him, and only a month after his passing, I had moved to this golf community in the very desert where he had first taught me to play golf when I was about ten years old. He knew I hoped to live here someday.
Standing on that green, I couldn’t help but feel he was smiling down on me. Even today, I feel closest to my dad when I’m out on a golf course. Every round reminds me of the gift he gave me—not just the game itself, but the memories we created together.
This photo marks a hole-in-one, but for me, it also represents love, family, and the lasting bond between a father and daughter.
Photos and Their Stories
I’ve been a photo coach since 1995 and my passion has always been to:

- tell the stories behind their photos
Digitizing your printed photos can preserve them, but you also need to pass along the stories. Otherwise, future generations will see the digital images of people, pets, and places, but they won’t know the full story of the moment.

Here’s a Christmas photo of me and my siblings from 1962 that’s been digitized and is permanently stored in FOREVER®. Look at the space in the right margin where you can write a line or two describing the photo or go into much more detail.
Just imagine being able to take 10 to 20 photos of your life or another loved one and write a chapter about each photo.
Your descendants and children of your best friends years from now will be able to enjoy your legacy and find meaning in your memories.
